William Sullivan

William Sullivan was born on 28th February 1888 in the Marylebone Workhouse. As Able Seaman 231415 he served on H.M.S. "P.20" and died on 29th October 1917, aged 29. His ship was sunk during World War I and he died at the Navy Hospital in Chatham in Kent. He's commemorated at Kensal Green (St. Mary's) R.C cemetery in London, his name is on the screen wall. He had a military escort for his funeral, a team of sailors arrived at Luton St. with a gun carriage, the coffin was carried out of the house by the sailors & placed on the carriage. The Union Jack flag was placed over the coffin & then taken to Kensal Green.

During his time in the Navy William Sullivan had sailed around the world more than once.
